week 7 blog assignment

One of the issues regularly discusses by Ms.Nokes and her colleges is the differences between family incomes. Since city families generally have more money, the education level available for these children is much higher. Most educators do not want to work in the country because of safety, pay, and accessibility to familiar amenities.

Moving to S.Korea to teach english was something Ms.Nokes stumbled upon. The company she works for provides housing and food as well as gives her the opportunity to travel regularly. It expands her knowledge of other places and languages as she travels.

Ms.Nokes wants to continue teaching english and hopes that government funding is shifted more towards the families in the country who can not afford extensive English learning classes.

  1. Lauren,
That is a very common thing here in America, the rich get the best education, while the less fortunate suffer. The best thing is that there are services to help families that are not able to receive the best education. It sounds like Ms. Nokes has drive and optimism for education. Thank you for sharing

  2. Hi Lauren,
It seems as if the issue Ms. Nokes discusses is the same everywhere; children who have families that have more money are the ones who get quality education. Meanwhile, the less fortunate have to settle because of lack of accessibility, teachers, resources, etc. Ms. Nokes is very fortunate that the company she works for pays her housing, food, and traveling expenses. What knowledge she must be gaining! Hopefully, her hopes that the government funding will shift to those families who are in need comes to fruition!

  3. Lauren,

It seems as if money drives the quality of education children receive regardless of where they live. Money seems to equal accessibility, quality and resources.

Ms. Nokes seems to have passion to advocate for the less fortunate. I wish her much success!

  4. I think that as advocates, maybe we should initiate access to quality education for low income families, by creating a website that has easy access to grants and scholarships. There are resources out there and we need to provide access to families so they have opportunities to advance their children's education. Children should be encouraged to play sports and if they do will their able to get grants to private high schools that might boost their education.

  5. I think that this is a good deed Ms. Nokes has done. Teaching English for those that can not afford it is awesome. I always enjoy seeing how many times we "stumble" upon things in this field. I too, had a "stumbling" into early childhood education. Ms. Nokes has a true gift for teaching and working with children.
