food for thought

Kindergarten is the new first grade?

  1. Hi Lauren,
I was just browsing to see who has posted the week 6 blog and saw this article you put out there. It is sobering indeed, but I have to say I have seen the jump go up every 10 to 12 years. When my son (who is almost 30) went to kindergarten the requirement was that he tie his shoes (before velcro) and could identify letters in his first name. About 10 years later things he did in 1st grade where happening in kindergarten, then another shift 12 years after that. That makes our job that much more important to advocate for young children to learn to be human first before the riggers of academics.
Thanks for your post and info!!
