My Connections To Play

Above are two quotes that summarize what play represented for my childhood: imagination.

Below are essential toys that I played with: Sprinklers, Card bord boxes, and FRIENDS!

My family and neighbors supported me in play by allowing us to roam the wooded back yard and create our own world. When the neighbors kids came over too often and interfered with our family's plans, we created a system of red or green construction paper which we placed on the garage windows which faced the neighbors house, to let them know when was or wasn't a good time to come play.

Today play has changed because the parents have changed. Many parents are still young themselves, and sometimes we can forget the importance of running around in the back yard. Technology has taken away some of our views on the importance of outdoor free play time. I hope that parents can remember to limit tv, video games, computer and phone usage, and allow adequate time for them to play without it.

the imagination i was allowed to expand, explore  and create my own worlds. this has translated into my love for crafting, painting and reading.

  1. Hi Lauren!
Great post. I love what you did to alert your neighbors as to when they can come over and play; that was very creative! I can see you are a creative lady: painting and crafting. I hope you can share some of your crafts and paintings with us one day!
